Kas is a lovely spot surrounded on three sides by mountains. The friendly local fishermen are happy to run a water taxi service to take you to a favourite bay, cove or beach along the coast. The swimming and diving are excellent in the clear cool water around Kas. Ancient Antiphellus, as Kas was once known, only the Lycian rock cut tombs and sarcophagi are left. However the charm of the town remains, and it is a pleasure to wander through the streets, stopping to examine souvenir shops that offer Turkish handicrafts, leather goods, copper and silver items, cotton clothing and the inevitable handmade carpet.

After shopping stroll along the flower-lined Akdeniz Promenade or relax under the shade of a palm tree. Kas's bars and restaurants offer plenty of nightlife. The mountains that surround the town provide their share of activities and sights. You can walk through forested hills to visit remote villages and ancient ruins. The energetic may want to attempt the highest peak in the area, Mt. Kizlar Sivrisi (3,086 metres), or the second highest, Mt. Akdag (3,030 metres).

Along the scenic Kalkan road, Kaputas has a beautiful beach, at one end of which is the Turquoise Grotto.

Lycea Kas is beautifully situated beside the crystal clear waters of the Turquoise coast with mountains to the rear. It is also in the ancient region of Lycea and as such you can visit numerous sites of historic interest, including the sunken city of Kekova, or perhaps walk the Lycean way. Distinctive Lycean tombs pepper the mountainsides and the town itself, one even popping up in one of the restaurant%u2019s courtyard. Kas Kas itself is a favourite destination for Dutch, German and Danish tourists as well as English, French and Italians. It%u2019s also a premier destination for Turks, especially Istanbulians. This, coupled with its distance from the nearest airport, has protected it from mass tourism and has allowed it to retain its uniquely cosmopolitan and Turkish character. Kas is lively but not crowded or brash, with numerous garden and roof top restaurants, a handful of bars and night-clubs and fantastic shops. . Beaches There is a small pebble beach, but most swimming occurs from the numerous terraced bars, that offer the use of sun loungers, umbrellas and showers free of change and where you can order drinks and food to be brought to you whilst you sunbathe. Beaches such as Cinarlar are full of shady spots and you can often hire out chess and backgammon sets if you fancy a game. You can access the sea from these bars via steps, ladders and for the more adventurous, diving boards. One such beach bar is less than a minute%u2019s walk from the flat. The sea around Kas is crystal clear and the main beach trip has blue flag status. It%u2019s not unknown to see marine life such as turtles and dolphins in Kas%u2019 waters. There are also some sandy beaches nearby including Kaputas and the stunning 20km long Patara beach which is also a turtle nesting ground and is surrounded by spectacular ancient ruins. Both are easy to get to via taxi, as part of a tour or by dolumus. Activities If swimming and sunbathing isn%u2019t enough for you there are several diving centres in Kas and many companies offer paragliding, kayaking and river walking. Boat trips are available including week long Gulet cruises and overnight, catered excursions as well as day trips along the coast. There are also various tour companies that offer a variety of trips including canoeing up the xanthos river, walking through Saklikent gorge and boat trips to Kekova. Also, in cooler months the area is great for hiking.
