Description
Il Cerretello, originally the Estate's hunting lodge, is the flagship property at Santo Stefano and lies in 4 acres of enclosed grounds amongst tall cypress trees in the very heart of the estate, bordering onto the wildlife reserve. There are glorious panoramic views out over olive trees and rows of vines to hamlets and villages nestling in the folds of the countryside. Some of the grounds are laid to lawn with borders of rosemary and lavender with ample space for a game of badminton or volleyball. There is also an olive grove, perfect for treasure hunts!

The spectacular infinity swimming pool, bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk and floodlit at night, is set into a terrace bordered with cypress trees, yellow and pink roses and crimson geraniums. Guests can gather for delicious lunches, drinks and dinners under the open-air pool loggia.

The magnificent ground floor reception room which is dominated by a large Tuscan fireplace, runs the full width of the ground floor and is decorated in an Italian country style with red and cream check sofas and armchairs and sporting prints. At the far end of the room is a range of dining tables, enough to seat the entire household. At the other end of the room is a range of dining tables. There is a smaller sitting room with satellite TV/VCR, ideal for children. The kitchen is very well equipped, not only for guests' requirements, but also to enable a local cook to easily prepare meals for guests. All the bedrooms are air-conditioned and furnished with a similar comfortable country style in individual colour schemes.

Two of the double bedrooms and one twin bedroom are on the ground floor, each having en suite shower rooms and French windows leading to the pool or the garden. On the first floor there are three separate wings, each sleeping four persons, all with private access. The north east wing has two double bedrooms with en suite shower rooms. The central wing comprises a sitting room with open fireplace, kitchen/dining room, double and twin bedroom both with en suite shower rooms. The south wing has a large sitting/dining room and kitchen area, a further small sitting/reading room with a sofa bed, double bedroom with en suite shower room and twin bedroom with en suite bathroom. The Granary cottage, which is adjacent to the pool, sleeps two persons and has a large double bedroom with fireplace, en suite shower room and French windows opening onto a private sun terrace.

The Area
Tuscany is a charmed land, equally blessed by the genius of man and nature. Rows of baby green vines manage somehow to march in arrow-straight formation up the gently rolling hillsides, bounded by single files of darker green cypress trees.

Symmetrically rounded hilltops surmounted by towns so homogeneous as to seem one single building. Every inch of land has been sculpted, first by the elements and then by generations of inhabitants whose goals were always to make the land produce as much as possible whilst keeping the land as beautiful as possible.

We have recently discovered some wonderful villas located in a private 1000 acre estate, 50 kilometres from Pisa, Florence and Sienna.

There is plenty to do and see in the area; artisans' workshops, churches and museums at the nearby historic towns of Montopoli, San Minato and Certaldo, as well as a good many sporting facilities in the vicinity. The English estate manager is happy to arrange wine tours, fishing trips, golf and even American horseback riding.

There is plenty to do in the area. The art centres of Florence, Siena and Lucca are within easy reach while close at hand are the evocative hill towns of San Gimignano, San Miniato. Keen walkers will enjoy strolling through the glorious landscape to neighbouring hamlets.

The management team have excellent local knowledge and contacts and are delighted to make bookings for restaurants and golf courses. Visits can also be arranged to local wineries and olive oil mills. Personalised tours of vineyards, historic villas and private collections with guides can also be arranged on request.

In summer there is an open-air cinema in Castelfiorentino and spontaneous festivals in local villages. There are also plenty of bars and tried-and-tested ice cream shops!

A selection of restaurants, from family-friendly trattorie to the internationally renowned, lie within easy reach. All have wine cellars with exceptional Tuscan wines.

The market towns of Castelfiorentino (population 17,500) and Montaione (population 3,500) lie 6 kms from Santo Stefano. They have a wide range of facilities including cafés, restaurants, a weekly market, banks, internet points, boutiques, good shops, hairdresser.
