Description
The Count and Countess d'Armagnac will personally be hosting your stay at Le Chateau de Couanac, which has been in their family since the late 1700s.
The castle is set amongst 750 acres of mainly grass and woodland, with a private lake available for fishing. Not only impressive by its rich history and architectural diversity; beauty and calm are the most dominant features of this magnificent estate.
The region is famously known for its food and wine. Cahors, the capital of the Lot with its medieval quarter is only 30 minutes drive away, as is Villefranche de Rouergue. Nearby is picturesque St Cirq Lapopie and the towns of St Antonin and Caylus - with bars, restaurants, sporting facilities, banks etc - are within a 30 minute drive. Locally, there are numerous villages to visit, most with weekly markets, cafes, bakers, butchers and restaurants.
The four various properties offered for rental share a large pool and are located next to the castle and form a little hamlet.
There is a restaurant in the Chateau where produce grown on the farm is prepared by the Countess for a selected number of tables.
The four houses offer accommodation with many of the original features retained: exposed beams, stonework and fireplaces and each has its own individual section of garden with BBQ.
A unique experience, with all properties benefiting from the most beautiful scenery and vast safe grounds that the estate has to offer. (Cars are not allowed within the immediate areas.) For children, there is a football pitch, a large indoor games room and table tennis.
It is an ideal place for children to meet and play and for the parents to relax.

Large floodlit pool 12m x 8m, fenced for child security
Loungers and BBQ
Children's activities, including football, indoor games room and table tennis

The Area
The properties are approximately a day's drive from the Channel Ports and just over an hour from Toulouse Airport. Rodez airport is on average 1 hour 15 mins and Carcassone 2 hours to most of the properties.
All properties are just short drives from Medieval towns steeped in history which still enjoy a quiet sophistication, together with friendly local people who have a warmth to match their lovely countryside. The area is unspoilt by the over-crowding of tourists experienced nowadays in many parts of France.
All properties enjoy a panoramic view and mostly are surrounded on all sides by open countryside. The properties offer tranquility and relaxation and yet are still within easy reach of amenities.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Nearby are Medieval villages, Bastide towns, Chateaux, Abbeys, Churches and magnificent natural sites of outstanding beauty; whether it be wooded valleys or the meandering River Aveyron with its dramatic gorges.
ACTIVITIES
Horse riding, canoeing, fishing, bird watching, rail trips, rock climbing, wine tasting, museums, pot-holing, tennis and of course walking. Golf is available at Albi (18-hole delightful course), where there is also a water-park for children. An afternoon's excursion by canoe through the Aveyron Gorge is considered a 'must' by nearly all guests.
A number of local villages and towns have interesting and colourful markets. (NB: Be sure not to miss the local market in St Antonin held on SUNDAY mornings and Villefranche on Thursdays).
EXCURSIONS BY CAR
Within short driving distances, excursions can also be made to a number of fascinating towns and villages including Cordes, Albi, Najac, Cahors, St Antonin Noble Val and Bruniquel, all of which are well worth a visit. The larger towns house excellent restaurants to cater for all budgets.
